Optimizely CMS Is Live in Cogny: Read, Draft and Publish Pages From Your Agent
If your website runs on Optimizely CMS, your agent can now work in it. Optimizely CMS (SaaS) is a live MCP integration in Cogny. It covers your pages and the fields on them, the content types that define those fields, and your languages. It can draft new pages, edit drafts and publish them when you say so.
Connecting takes an API key from your CMS settings. There's no app to install and no OAuth screen.
TL;DR
- Live now, included from Cogny Solo ($9/mo).
- 11 tools: 7 reads and 4 writes.
- Reads: pages and other content with type, locale, status and URL segment; every field of a version, including rich text and blocks; content types with their fields; languages.
- Drafts first: new pages and edits are always saved as drafts. To change a live page, the agent starts a new draft from it, so the live page stays as it is until you publish.
- Publishing waits for you:
publish_draftis the one tool that makes content public, and it is marked destructive so it asks before it runs. It can also schedule a publish. - Nothing is deleted.
What you can do with it
| Area | Reads | Writes |
|---|---|---|
| Pages and content | Every version across the site, filtered by status (draft, published, scheduled …) and language; the pages under a parent; one item with all its versions | Create a page as a draft under a parent; edit a draft's name, URL segment and fields; start a new draft from a published page |
| Fields | Every field of a version: headings, body text, SEO fields, references, blocks | Set any field the content type has, e.g. meta title and description or rich-text body |
| Content types | Each type with the fields it takes and their constraints | — |
| Languages | The locales set up in your CMS | — |
| Publishing | Which versions are live, scheduled or waiting as drafts | Publish a draft now or at a set time (asks every time) |
Questions this answers in one prompt:
- "Which pages have a draft waiting that nobody has published?"
- "Write meta descriptions for our ten product pages that don't have one, as drafts."
- "Create a landing page for the spring campaign under /campaigns, using the same type as last year's."
- "Publish the drafts I approved yesterday."
With Search Console or GA4 connected to the same workspace, the agent can pick the pages that rank on page two, rewrite their titles and descriptions as drafts, and leave them for you to publish.
Drafts first, and you decide what goes live
The Optimizely API saves every new page as a draft and only lets an edit change a draft. Cogny keeps it that way:
create_pageandupdate_drafthave no status field, and in Cogny's own chat and tickets any status the agent tries to pass anyway is removed.- To edit a live page,
create_draft_versioncopies it into a new draft first. publish_draftis marked destructive, so your own MCP client asks before it runs. In Cogny's chat on Free and Solo it needs a fresh approval on every call, with no "always allow". In tickets the agent can't call it at all: it stages the draft for review and you click Make it live.
You can also limit the agent through the key's access rights. A key with only Read can't change anything, and a key without Publish can draft but not publish.
How to connect it
- In Optimizely CMS, open Settings → API Keys and click Create API Key. Copy the client ID and client secret; the secret is shown only once.
- Open Settings → Set Access Rights and give the key Read on your pages. Add Create and Change so it can draft, and Publish if it may publish.
- In Cogny, open Settings → Integrations, click Connect on Optimizely CMS and paste both values.
The secret is stored encrypted. Disconnect any time, or delete the key in Optimizely.
What it doesn't do yet
This is for Optimizely CMS (SaaS). Self-hosted CMS 12 sites aren't supported yet. Optimizely Web Experimentation is a separate integration. There are no deletes, unpublishes, moves or media uploads, and no full-text search. The full list of tools and gaps is on the Optimizely CMS tools page.
Connect it from your Cogny dashboard and ask which of your pages need new meta descriptions.
