YouTube Is Now Live in Cogny: Channel Stats, Video Performance and Comments for Your Agent
If you publish on YouTube, the numbers that tell you what's working — which uploads beat your average, how often you actually post, what viewers keep asking in the comments — have lived in a separate tab from your ads and web analytics. Starting today they don't.
YouTube is a live MCP integration in Cogny. Paste your channel's @handle and your agent can read channel stats, video performance, playlists and public comments in plain language, next to everything else in your workspace. This one came straight from a customer's integration wish.
TL;DR
- YouTube is live now. Connect it with your channel's @handle under Settings → MCPs For Cogny — no API key, no Google Cloud setup.
- Eight read-only tools:
get_channel,get_channel_performance,list_channel_videos,get_videos,search_videos,list_playlists,list_playlist_items,list_comment_threads. - Your channel is the default, so "how is our channel doing?" needs no handle. It works for any public channel too — pass a competitor's @handle, channel id or URL.
get_channel_performancedoes the arithmetic for you: uploads per week, days since the last upload, median and top views, engagement rate, best and worst videos.- New YouTube Channel Signals scheduled template: a weekly read on subscriber change, which uploads outperformed, comments that need a reply, and a competitor benchmark.
- Included in Cogny Solo ($9/mo).
What you can do with it
| Area | What your agent can do |
|---|---|
| Channels | Subscribers, lifetime views, video count and profile for any public channel |
| Performance | Upload cadence, median / top / bottom views and engagement rate over a window you choose |
| Videos | Your uploads newest-first with views, likes, comments and length; stats for up to 50 specific videos at once |
| Comments | Public comment threads on one video or across a whole channel, newest or most relevant first, with a text filter |
| Playlists | A channel's playlists and the videos in each |
| Search | Keyword search across YouTube or inside one channel, filtered by date, region and language |
In plain terms: "Which of our last 20 videos did best, and what do they have in common?" "How often are we posting compared with our two biggest competitors?" "What questions keep coming up in our comments this month?" "Did last week's launch video get more views than our usual upload?"
Video paste-ins work too — a youtu.be link, a Shorts URL or a regular watch URL all resolve to the right video.
How to connect it
- Open your channel on YouTube and copy its @handle (or the
youtube.com/@…link). - In Cogny, open Settings → MCPs For Cogny, click Connect on the YouTube card and paste it.
That's it — there's no Google Cloud project to create and no API key to manage.
What's included, and what isn't
This release reads public YouTube data — the same numbers anyone can see on a channel or video page: subscribers, views, likes, comment counts, uploads, playlists and public comments.
It does not include YouTube Studio analytics such as watch time, audience retention, impressions, click-through rate or traffic sources, and it can't upload, edit or reply. Those need you to sign in to YouTube and grant access to your channel, which this connection doesn't ask for.
Limits. YouTube caps how many requests can be made per day, resetting at midnight Pacific time. Channel, video, playlist and comment lookups are cheap; keyword search is about 100 times more expensive, so the agent uses it sparingly and lists your own uploads the cheap way. If the daily limit is reached, the tool says so plainly instead of returning partial numbers.
YouTube Channel Signals: the weekly report
The new YouTube Channel Signals template runs every Monday and gives you:
- Subscriber and view change since last week
- Upload cadence and days since your last upload
- Your top videos over 90 days, measured against your own median
- How this week's uploads are tracking for their age
- Comments that need a reply, with a suggested reply for each
- A side-by-side with up to three competitor channels, and the topics they're winning with
- Three video ideas for next week
It shows up among your recommended reports once YouTube is connected — pick YouTube Channel Signals when you add a scheduled report.
If video is part of your marketing, it should sit in the same place as your ads, search and analytics data. Connect YouTube from your Cogny dashboard and ask your first question.
