Mixpanel MCP for your AI agent

Cogny's Mixpanel integration exposes 16 tools (11 read, 4 write, 1 destructive) to an AI agent over MCP. The same tools are available on every plan, from your own AI client or inside the Cogny app.

    • 11readonly reads data.
    • 4writecreates or changes something.
    • 1destructivedeletes, removes or replaces something.

Over MCP your own AI client asks before it runs a write. To take a tool away from your agent, block it in Settings → Integrations. Plans, approvals and limits

    set it up.

Add Cogny to your AI client once, then connect Mixpanel in Cogny. Every Mixpanel tool below appears in the client.

    • Claude CodeRun claude mcp add --transport http cogny https://app.cogny.com/mcp, then authorise in the browser.
    • Claude.aiSettings → Connectors → Add custom connector, URL https://app.cogny.com/mcp, then log in and pick your workspace.
    • ChatGPTSettings → Apps → Advanced settings → Developer mode → Create app, URL https://app.cogny.com/mcp, authentication OAuth.
    • CursorIn Cogny, Settings → Data & Integrations → Connect AI Clients shows the block to paste into .mcp.json, with an API key.
    • CodexRun codex mcp add cogny --url https://app.cogny.com/mcp.

    Notes

Mixpanel connects with a Service Account username and secret, the project ID, and the API host for your data residency (US mixpanel.com, EU eu.mixpanel.com, India in.mixpanel.com). The service account's project role decides what the tools can do: Consumer is enough for every read tool, and the annotation and event-import tools need Analyst or higher. Lexicon edits may need Admin.

import_events takes up to 2,000 events per call. Each event needs a distinct_id and a time. An event without an $insert_id gets one derived from its content, so sending the same batch twice does not count it twice. Events that fail Mixpanel's validation come back in failed_records; the rest are imported.

update_lexicon_definition changes only the fields you pass (description, display name, hidden, tags) and keeps the rest of the definition. Hiding an event removes it from menus; its data is kept.

    Known gaps

    • User profiles are read-only: setting or deleting profile properties needs the project token, which a Service Account connection does not have.
    • Cohorts, funnels, saved reports and dashboards cannot be created or edited.
    • Imported events cannot be deleted one by one; removing data needs a Mixpanel data deletion request.
    • No access to the raw Export API.

    what each tool does.

Read 11 · only reads data

    • get_project_infoReadReport which Mixpanel project_id and API host this connection is configured for.
    • run_segmentationReadCount occurrences of an event over time, optionally split by a property expression.
    • list_funnelsReadList saved funnel definitions (funnel_id and name) for this project.
    • get_funnelReadGet conversion results for one saved funnel over a date range.
    • get_retentionReadGet cohort retention between a "born" event and a returning event.
    • list_cohortsReadList saved cohort definitions (id and name) for this project.
    • run_insights_reportReadGet the results of a saved Insights report.
    • list_profilesReadPage through user profiles (People).

    • list_annotation_tagsReadList the annotation tags in this project (id and name).
    • get_lexicon_definitionReadRead the Lexicon definition of an event (or of user-profile properties): description, display name, hidden flag, tags and property definitions.

Write 4 · creates or changes something

    • create_annotationWriteAdd an annotation to this project's charts, such as a campaign launch, a release or a pricing change.
    • update_annotationWriteChange an annotation's description or tags.
    • update_lexicon_definitionWriteSet an event's Lexicon description, display name, hidden flag or tags, keeping everything else in its definition.
    • import_eventsWriteSend events into this Mixpanel project, such as offline conversions or a backfill.

Destructive 1 · deletes, removes or replaces something

    • delete_annotationDestructiveDelete an annotation from this project's charts.

Exact input schemas come from tools/list once Mixpanel is connected; the free plan is enough to check. Missing something? Your agent can ask for it with request_feature.
