Communities grow fast and quietly. Lurkers turn into regulars, regulars go quiet, the same questions get asked across three channels — and you only catch a fraction of it. Cogny + Claude reads the joins, messages, and reactions you'd otherwise miss and ships a weekly digest with the actual signal: who joined, who's contributing, what's getting asked, and what's left hanging.

    cogny --faq
Why a bot token instead of OAuth?

Discord's user OAuth can list guilds and identify you, but it can't read message history, list members, or send messages. The MCP tools need bot-level access — that's a bot token plus the Server Members and Message Content privileged intents enabled in the Discord Developer Portal.

What permissions does the bot actually need?

View Channels, Read Message History, and Send Messages. The connect dialog generates an install URL with exactly those bits set (permissions integer 68608). You can grant more if you want richer replies, but the default set covers everything the read tools need.

Will the bot post in my server unprompted?

No. send_message is exposed but the weekly digest is read-only by default — the bot only posts if you explicitly ask Claude to. Mutations require approval the same way ad-platform mutations do.

Is my community data safe with Cogny and Claude?

Bot tokens are encrypted at rest in Supabase Vault (pgcrypto) and scoped to a single workspace. Reads go to the LLM call you triggered and the response is stored in your warehouse — no separate Discord-message archive. Disconnect with one click and the bot's permissions are revoked at the Discord side.

When do Slack and Telegram launch?

Slack and Telegram MCPs are in design. Discord went first because it's the most-requested community surface among solo founders running paid acquisition.
